The Arizona Cattlemen's Association Industry News - Cattlemen Respond to the EPA
By letter dated 16 November 2007 from ACGA and ACFA Presidents to the US EPA, Honorable Stephen L. Johnson, Administrator, the ACA responded thusly:

The Arizona Cattlemen's Association strongly supports continuation of current federal standards for ozone emissions.

The ACA is an umbrella organization which works to advance the policies and programs of the Arizona Cattle Feeders' Association and the Arizona Cattle Growers' Association.  Altogether, the ACA represents more than 2,000 beef cattle producers and industry leaders across the state and serves as the only professional organization solely dedicated to representing, educating, communicating, and providing services to Arizona's beef-producing families.

As cattlemen, we depend on clean air and water for our very livelihoods and we believe it is our responsibility to serve as responsible stewards of natural and animal resources. We therefore support the current EPA emissions policies which provide a realistic framework that enables private industry and state and local governments to work together to reduce ozone emissions and other air pollutants.

Furthermore, we believe that the EPA should reject any new regulatory standard that takes a one-size-fits-all approach to ozone emissions.  Clearly, Any future revisions to federal ozone rules should take into account the differences between rural and urban areas, as well as the differences in costs and benefits of control measures across a variety of regions and economic conditions.

Thank you for your consideration of our views on this important matter.

Signed:

Tom Chilton, ACGA President

Scott Shill, ACFA President
