The Arizona Cattlemen's Association Industry News - Cattle Fax - October 1, 2007
This week the fed cattle market closed mostly $2 higher, as the bulk of the trade occurred at $95 to $96.50 live and $148 to $150 dressed in the North. Kansas sold dressed at $151.50 to $152.

Trade volumes were moderate; all packers participated.

The boxed beef market was modestly higher this week on average at best movement. Although asking prices remain firm, demand remains a limiting factor. Demand is expected to improve moving forward.

Feeder cattle prices were quoted from $1 higher to $2 lower, while calves closed the week $2 higher to $4 softer. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower for the week. Movement is picking up on cows, and we are on the tail end of the yearling runs.

Calves are expected to begin to move in earnest over the next few weeks.

Corn prices increased on the week, higher wheat prices worldwide remains a driver.
