The Arizona Cattlemen's Association Industry News - A Response to the Arizona Republic
In response to "Arizona Food Prices Up 15% in '07" in the Arizona Republic, the ACGA and ACFA say:

Food Prices... Where's the Beef?

Has Houdini arrived in Tolleson? The Republic article in the Business Section today stated... "Arizona doesn't have any beef processors?"

This is pretty amazing since Smithfield Beef Company in Tolleson, Arizona, processed over $450 million worth of beef and beef products last year. The price –the Yellow Sheet Commodity Report demonstrates that beef is a bargain with chuck cutout values down by nearly one percent. And where did this beef come from? Over 75% of the beef processed at Smithfield's plant in Tolleson was raised in Arizona. Arizona's beef producing families have consistently provided over 75% of the beef products processed at Smithfield.

Arizona has enough "homegrown" beef to feed 5.5 million beef consumers: – nearly all of Arizona's needs!
